Spillane & Co. Wealth Management North Wales Virtual 5 Miles Championships

Unfortunately due to the present uncertainty around the Covid 19 Pandemic restrictions Abergele Harriers recently took the decision to cancel the Abergele 5's that were due to the place on Sunday 8th November. These races should have included the 2020 North Wales 5 mile road racing championships.

After discussion with the North Wales Regional Athletics Council and with the agreement of Welsh Athletics, Abergele Harriers have been authorised to hold Virtual North Wales 5 mile Championships with the usual 1st, 2nd and 3rd medals overall, and in all recognised age categories. Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Spillane & Co. Wealth Management and the services of niftyEntries.com being provided free of charge, these championships are FREE to enter.

Anyone can enter the Spillane & Co. Wealth Management North Wales Virtual 5 Miles Championships but in order to be eligible for a medal must fulfill the following criteria;

Championship Qualification – only Welsh Athletics affiliated athletes eligible and:

• i. Birth: born within the area covered by N.W.R.A.C.
• ii. Residence: Continuous current residence within the area covered by N.W.R.A.C. for at least 9 months.
• iii. Retention: An athlete may retain his/her existing qualification to represent N. Wales and compete in the N. Wales Regional Championship, provided that he/she has not represented another Region or County, nor competed in a different Regional or County Championship in the same year of competition.
• iv. Where an athlete competes for a club not based in Wales but does qualify on one of the above three criteria, they have to register with Welsh Athletics to be eligible.

The following are the details of the race;

1) Date; Runs must take place and evidence uploaded to niftyEntries on either Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th August 2020.

2) Closing date for entries is Midnight on Sunday 23rd August 2020 in order to give time for the organisers to confirm eligibility for medals.

3) The Run; The run must be 5 miles at least on road or similar surface (on a running track or treadmill will NOT be accepted). The start and finish should be within a half a mile of each other to insure fair and comparable courses. Runners must obey social distancing advice in the country that they run in.

4) Proof of performance must be uploaded before midnight on Sunday 30th August 2020 to the website. Performances will be verified by the organiser. Details of how to upload performances will be given in the e mail confirming you entry to the event so please keep this email. This e mail will be sent immediately your entry has been accepted so if it doesn't appear in your inbox, please check your "Junk" box.

5) Championship medals, provided by NWRAC, will be awarded for the fastest 3 times, male and female, in the following categories; Under 20, Senior, 35-39 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+
